Biomedical engineers are specifically interested in ways to advance biology and medicine. They work directly with health care professionals. The work in the pharmaceutical industry developing new medicines. The work with manufacturers in the development of life saving devices such as pacemakers and heart valves. They make possible the technology of joint replacement. Unlike some other fields of engineering such as mechanical, electrical or civil, biomedical engineering entry-level job opportunities are usually limited to those who hold graduate degrees.
